The importance of nurturing the young
Saturday
Over 1300 years ago, Sūn Sīmião wrote extensively about the importance of nurturing the young. These days parents are faced with an overwhelming amount of often contradictory advice about how to raise happy, healthy children. Yet somehow, we find ourselves with a generation of children, many of whom are unhappy and/or chronically ill.
This talk will look at why it is vital that babies and children get what they need in the first years of life, what they need and how to go about giving it to them. We will see how the wisdom of Chinese medicine can be applied to today’s children and how it can help them to thrive.
Rebecca is the author of the textbook Acupuncture for Babies, Children and Teenagers, which emphasises the internal causes of disease in children and treating the child as well as the illness.
She gained a licence in acupuncture from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine (CICM) 18 years ago. She worked with Giovanni Maciocia for four years on the writing of Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine. She has since trained with and learned from several experts in paediatric acupuncture, most notably Julian Scott. She founded and runs a busy paediatric clinic in Oxford.
Rebecca is a senior lecturer, clinical supervisor and teaching clinic director at CICM. She teaches paediatrics at undergraduate and postgraduate level there, and at the Traditional Acupuncture Academy (TAA).
