Workshop title

Family dynamics and children’s ill health

Workshop times

Sunday

Workshop description

The great physician Sun Simiao expressed over and again how fragile young children are.  For many children the family in which they grow up has a bigger impact on their emotional and physical health than any other single factor.

Up until now, paediatric acupuncture has been predominantly concerned with the treatment of acute illnesses, and chronic illnesses caused by constitutional imbalances, external pathogenic factors and diet. Yet the pathology of so many of the children we see, arises from the internal causes of disease described in Su Wen Chapter 39 and is intimately related to their family dynamics.

In this talk, Rebecca will explore the following:

  • how a child’s emotions and physical body are intimately linked
  • how the state of a child’s qi influences the role he or she plays in the family
  • the interplay of the qi of all family members
  • the shifts that may take place in the family dynamics when the child is treated
  • how to work with an awareness of family dynamics in the treatment room
