Workshop title

Teenage and menopause: crisis or opportunity?

Workshop times

Saturday 11.30-13.00

Workshop description

Teenage and menopause (both female and male) are two ‘gates’ in life when great changes take place and health can take a turn for the better, or for the worse. They are both times when long-lasting imbalances can be thrown out; but, if this opportunity is not taken, the imbalance can go deeper, and reappear through life in different guises. For example, damp-heat in the liver channel can appear successively as childhood bedwetting, teenage acne, ovarian cysts, hot flushes, hip degeneration.

There is a gardener’s saying ‘The time to hoe is when you do not need to hoe’, and this applies to these great transitions. Treating children between 12 to 14 years, who have an imbalance but no dramatic symptoms, can have effects that last the rest of life. The same goes for menopause. With treatment before and during the menopause, not only is there a good chance of averting significant symptoms; but with their energy in balance, the patient will be in a position to choose the path that will lead to a fulfilling third age.

This talk will cover the commonly seen imbalances, how they manifest through different stages in life, and how, with acupuncture and advice, to make best use of the transition.
