Workshop description

Endometriosis affects a large number of women in developed countries and also in emerging economies. This condition is a major cause of infertility in women in their 30s and older. Severe pain during menses and also during ovulation usually is the main symptom. Pain diminishes our everyday quality of life. At the core of endometriosis is the development of new endometrial tissue in areas surrounding the uterus, but also extra gynaecological areas such as intestines, even lungs. This tissue bleeds in every menstrual cycle and so is a real threat to life. Surgery and hormonal treatments do not always work, as endometriosis tends to relapse. Women look for other options and complementary treatment in Chinese medicine.
