Workshop title

The Great Intent

Workshop times

Sunday 09.00-09.45

Workshop description

Intention lies at the heart of what we do as healers, and physicians. In this lecture Richard will draw on 40 years of textual research and translation to illustrate the golden thread of intent running through the Chinese mind, illustrating both the global, broader, and narrower, more personal uses of this term. He will explore the idea that intention does not always have to voiced, thought out, not even acknowledged or properly understood. Many times, it seems to mean just being at the right place at the right time. Choosing the right and proper place to stand, vis-a-vis the patient. Richard welcomes practitioners of all levels of experience to join him at this lecture.

Speaker biography

Richard has worked as acupuncturist and translator, in splendid rural isolation for many years. He has also taught qigong and taiji to any who could stand still enough. His Yijing: Shamanic Oracle of Change (2011) and The Great Intent: Acupuncture Odes, Songs and Rhymes (2013) are both published by Singing Dragon. A first translation of the Tang Qigong classic, A Record of the Assembled Immortals and Gathered Perfected of the Western Hills came out this year. He also self-publishes on CreateSpace, and is interested in the problems arising during qigong research – for honestly, ‘how do you catch the moon in a sieve?’
