Acupuncture is widely used for the treatment of Bell's palsy. Acupuncture has a unique effect, but there is still some controversy in different stages of Bell's palsy. Professor Sun Yuanzheng has more than 30 years’ clinical experience. He has his own experience and unique insights into the treatment of Bell's palsy at different stages. This lecture will discuss the treatment of Bell's palsy from the following aspects:

  1. Brief introduction of Bell's palsy;
  2. Treatment principles of Bell's palsy at different stages;
  3. Common issues in the treatment of Bell's palsy: Controversy of different stages, time window of acupuncture treatment, points selection, treatment of sequelae in Bell's palsy, EMG for prognosis of Bell's palsy;
  4. Experiences from different famous doctors of treating Bell's palsy and research progress.

Speaker biography

Sun Yuanzheng, professor, medical advisor, chief physician of No.2 ward of acupuncture and moxibustion in Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine Affiliated No.2 Hospital, is the chairman of the Heilongjiang medical Acupuncture and Moxibustion committee. He has presided over three national Traditional Chinese Medicine research projects, and 14 other projects. He has published more than 140 papers. His research interests include acupuncture for addiction to morphine and alcohol, as well as acupuncture for motor neurone disease. He is an expert in acupuncture and integrated medicine for neurological diseases. He also has experience in treating cerebrovascular diseases, peripheral neuropathy, traumatic paraplegia, medulla oblongata, facial paralysis, cervical spondylosis, frozen shoulder, neurasthenia, insomnia and other diseases. He promotes a systematic, individualised, integrated treatment method for sequelae of stroke (including hemiplegia, language disorders, depression and urinary obstruction).
