Different ways of Influencing the Qi: Toyohari acupuncture and non-insertive needling

Workshop description

This session will include:

  • An overview of Toyohari style acupuncture and its use of 5 phase theory
  • What does it mean to regulate the Qi and what are our feedback systems?
  • Non-insertive needling techniques with reference to the Classics
  • How Toyohari utilises polarity agents eg Zinc and copper and how this influences the Qi and the meridian system
  • How midday-midnight theory and the use of the Extraordinary vessels is used for Branch (symptom control treatment)
  • What do our patients experience during treatment?

Speaker biography

Inspired by her time living in Japan, where she was studying shiatsu, Marian returned to the UK to study acupuncture and qualified in 1991, followed by intensive clinical training in a teaching hospital in Nanjing. Since 1998, she has practiced Japanese acupuncture, training in the UK, the Netherlands and Japan. For many years, she taught at the University of Westminster as a Senior Lecturer and other acupuncture colleges in the UK. She is a faculty member of the European Branch of the Toyohari Association and teaches in Amsterdam and she will be teaching on the first Toyohari training programme here in the UK in 2018.

Marian works extensively with fertility issues and obstetrics as well as treating a broad range of other conditions. She also practices Shonishin (Japanese paediatric acupuncture).
